My favorite Book Moments Of 2014
I’ve been so wrapped up in my latest WIP that I didn’t
realize how close we are coming to ending 2014 and starting 2015. It’s seems like
it was just yesterday that I was typing “THE END” on A Cry For Hope. It’s hard to
believe it was a whole year ago and since then I have introduced you to two
other book couples as well: Will & Gabby and Becca & Mason. To say that 2014
went by in the blink of an eye is an UNDERSTATEMENT. I hope you enjoyed the
books and the characters that I introduced you to this year during my writing
journey and I hope that their stories stay with you for a very long time. I met a
lot of awesome new readers this year as well! So, going forward into 2015 I
hope to keep improving my writing by making you laugh, making you cry (because
you know I love to do that to you guys)
and making your heart skip a beat. Thank
you all for continuing to read my books and for loving them as much as I do. I
got great stories planned for you in 2015!! Until then, here are my favorite
moments of 2014:
A Cry For Hope
An hour and forty-seven
minutes later, I was turning down the long and winding road that led to the cemetery.
I pulled my car off to the side and walked up the hill that led to Charlie’s grave.
I looked around and was thankful that I was all alone. The late morning sunlight
was beating down and the sweat was already streaming down my face, but I didn’t
care. I needed to be with my Charlie. I placed the cupcake that my mother had made
just for him on his headstone and sat down on the ground. “Grandma made this just
for you, Charlie. She misses you so much. We all miss you so much. I can’t believe
that a whole year has passed already. It seems like just yesterday. I hope you know
how much I love you and that I am so sorry that I couldn’t be there for you that
day. You were my world, Charlie, the reason that I existed, and I’m trying to keep
going without you, but it’s so hard some days.”
I couldn’t hold
back anymore and soon found myself unable to breathe through my sobs, finally admitting
to myself, after a whole year, that my little boy was really gone and never coming
back. I wrapped my arms around my legs and buried my face in my knees. I rocked
back and forth, trying my best to calm myself, slowly lifting my head when I felt
someone standing over me. My heart raced and my stomach dropped when I looked up
and saw Jamie’s beautiful eyes staring down into mine.
“Jamie,” I whispered,
crying even harder at the sight of him.
He bent down beside
me, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me closer. He kissed me on the top of
my head as my tears continued to flow.
“He’s really gone.
It took me a whole year to come to that realization, but our baby is really gone
and he’s never coming back,” I whispered, trying to catch my breath.
A Will To Change
I followed behind her, trying my best to hide my laughter when I
noticed that her shirt was still on inside out. I had noticed the tag when she
had whisked past me to answer the door earlier, but being the nice guy that I was, I didn’t want to
embarrass her in front of her date. I figured what would it hurt if she went
out with her shirt on inside out? I found it hard to believe that she had sex
and put her shirt on the same way again. She was totally playing me so I was
going to play right along with her. I sat down beside her on the couch. “So,
give me details.” I had to bite my bottom lip to stop myself from laughing at
the stunned look that stretched across her face.
“What!? No, I’m not giving you details.”
“Why not?”
“Umm, because I’m just not!” she said,
picking up the remote, nervously flicking through the channels.
“Well, I know one thing. He must not be
much of a boob man.”
“Why?” she asked, crinkling her forehead.
“Because you obviously didn’t take off your
shirt.”
“Umm…yeah, I did, if you must know!” she replied with an overly
animated jerk of her head.
“Really?”
“Yeah, really!”
“Oh, so I guess the shirt you have on is meant to be worn inside out then?
Because it was inside out when you left, too.”
Her jaw and head dropped as she looked down
at her shirt. I couldn’t contain my laughter. “Will! You let me walk out of
here with my shirt on inside out?!”
I held my hand up in defense. “Well, I
didn’t want to embarrass you in front of Eugene.” She pushed me back on the
couch and was no longer able to hold back her own laughter. She began to tell
me all about her failed date, and I did my best to try and not seem happy about
it.
“Go ahead, have at it!” she said.
“Have at what?”
“Telling me ‘I told you so’.”
“Now, Gabby, I would never do that to you.”
I busted out with laughter once again.
“That’s okay. You won’t be laughing when I
become a lonely old cat lady. I’m going to start collecting one cat for each
year that I don’t have sex. At this rate, I’ll have twenty-nine by the time I’m
sixty.”
“Gabby, you kill me!” She sighed heavily.
“Movie?” I asked.
“Sure. I just want to get into my pajamas,”
she said, standing up from the couch and sounding a little defeated.
“Hey, Gabby?”
“Yeah?”
“I don’t think you’ll have twenty-nine
cats. Twenty, maybe, but not twenty-nine.”
She picked up the pillow from the couch and
tossed it at me. “You’re such an ass!” she smirked.
“That’s my girl!”
Blind Side of Love
“So Becca, have
you ever been to Louisiana?”
“Nope. Can’t say
that I have!”
“Do you want to go?”
I asked. She looked up from her ice cream, looking a little surprised. She
shrugged her shoulders, clearly waiting for me to elaborate. “My sister planned
a last minute anniversary party for my parents next weekend and I would love
for you to come.”
“Oh, umm…..” It
was too soon for her, and I instantly regretted asking her when I saw the look
on her face.
“No big deal if
you don’t want to. I just thought maybe you would want to get away.”
“No, I do and
thank you so much for asking. It’s just…I would have to make arrangements with
Linda to see if she could take Lilly and –”
“Becca, really
it’s okay; I understand it’s last minute. It’s not a big deal. I just thought
I’d put it out there.”
She sighed
heavily and nodded. “Well thanks for thinking of me.” She forced a smile,
staring off into space like she was deep in thought, before finally breaking
her silence. “Mason?”
“Yeah.”
“Did you tell
your family about me?”
“Yes, I did.”
“Do they know?”
I shook my head
in confusion. “Do they know what?”
“That I’m blind.”
“Of course.” She
looked down at the table and her eyes filled with tears. “What’s wrong, Becca?”
“Nothing.”
I reached over
and grabbed her hand. “Becca, please tell me; what are you thinking?”
“Well, why would
you want me?”
“What? Why
wouldn’t I?
“You’re so good
to me, you have this great personality and I’m fairly certain that you’re not
bad to look at either, so why would you want to be stuck with someone who can’t
even walk down the street without a dog or holding someone’s hand? You deserve
so much better than that.” The tears were now streaming down her face and I
felt like I was taking a slow bullet to my chest.
I lifted her
hand to my lips and placed a gentle kiss on her knuckles. “Because when I look
at you I see so much more than just a blind girl. You make me happy, Becca. You
make me feel things that I haven’t felt in a very long time. So to me there is
no one better; you’re the best there is. I wish you could see what I do when I
look at you. Please do not ever think that you are not good enough.”
I took her ice cream cone that was melting all over
the place and threw it in the garbage. I handed her a napkin and she wiped off
her hands. I could still see so much doubt all over her face and I hated it. I
stood up and grabbed her hand. As she got up, I took her face in my hands. “If
I have to tell you all day, every day just how special you are until you
finally believe it, I will. I will do whatever it takes for you to see yourself
exactly how I see you.”
Hope we made your 2014 in the book world memorable!!

Easy Silence:
5 HUMONGOUS tear drops (Super intense: river of teardrops. May cause a massive headache, severe swollen eyes, and some therapy after reading)
A Cry For Hope:
5 tear drops ( Intense: Do not apply any eye make up prior to reading this story, unless you want to be mistaken for a raccoon. Read this when you are completely alone with a box of tissues or better yet, a roll of Bounty paper towels)A Cry For Hope
The Exception To The Rule:
4 Tear Drops (Moderate: You may ruin your eye makeup while reading, so apply at your own risk. Box of tissues nearby but there are breaks in the sadness that will allow your eyes to clear up and look somewhat human between cries)The Exception To The Rule
The rest are all 3 Tear Drops (Mild: Eye makeup should survive. A few tissues from the box will be needed nearby to dab you eyes every now and then. You will easily be able to disguise your crying by saying that you have something in your eye if someone else walks in the room while you are reading)

Just a Quick Little Hello....
It's been so long since I blogged that I almost forgot my password. I've been super busy with writing, finding the perfect cover, editing and life in general. I will be publishing my next book A Will To Change.....the companion novel to A Cry For Hope, next month. I know I need to slow down it down a bit but when an idea strikes me I have to keep going until the entire story is out of my head. This story hit me as I was finishing up with A Cry For Hope and created the character of her brother in law, Will. Something told me the minute that he jumped into the pages (actually on the computer screen) of that book that he had his own story to tell.....and boy does he ever! I will be sharing the cover with everyone in exactly one week!. I hope that you guys will love just as much as me!
I am also working on another story that I will be releasing sometime in the fall. The entire story came to me just by looking at a set of pictures (one of which I will be using for my cover) from a very talented photographer. I will be adding the synopsis to Goodreads very soon!
And for all my 40 + readers (like myself) the next book that's in my head and waiting to be typed out is going to be about a 40 something protagonist....that won't be releasing until sometime next year. I've had the idea for this one in my head for a while and kept pushing it back because the characters in all these other books have been talking louder to me. But once I'm done with my current WIP, I plan on shutting everyone else up and concentrating fully on this one.

Four more days until A Cry For Hope! I'm feeling like a kid who still believes in Santa Claus at Christmas. I seriously cannot wait to share this story with all of you! From the day that I began writing this book five months ago I dreamed about the day that it would finally be in the hands of everyone else to read.
So, the fact that it's Monday morning and the start of a new work week doesn't even bother me because I know that means I'm one day closer to putting my book into your hands!!
If you haven't already please RSVP and celebrate on Friday....lots of fun, games and prizes!

March Is Going To Be Exciting!!
Well, we made through the two worst months of the year (in my opinion). So, now we can start looking forward to spring....I hope! Even if the weatherman says that spring isn't in the air just yet.....there's still other exciting things going on this months in my fictional world:
I'll even bring the music.....check out the playlist that I put together for A Cry For Hope. Yes, I'm patting my computer challenged self on the back for figuring this out: A Cry For Hope Playlist
March 7th is An Unplanned Lesson's 1st birthday. Can you believe that Dailan O'Maley has only been around for a year? It seems like we've known him forever. Keep your eyes peeled for a little giveaway to help Dailan and Nicole celebrate their day!
March 14th I will be releasing A Cry For Hope and I cannot wait! I am so happy with the feedback that I have been receiving from the advanced readers so far. I know it sounds mean but....I love to make people cry while reading my books. To celebrate the release of A Cry for Hope there will also be a release party. Dress is VERY CASUAL, you can drink as much as you want and don't have to worry about driving and did I mention....lots of great games, giveaways and prizes! TGIF....
You know the saying....Thank God it's Friday! Really, Thank God! This feels like it has been the longest week ever! But it's been a pretty good one.....An Unplanned Lesson made it into the top 100 of New Adult books on Amazon, so I'm really happy about that. More people are getting to know Dailan & Nicole and hopefully falling in love with them.
A Cry For Hope will be releasing in a little over a month. I cannot wait to share this story with all of you. Make sure you join the release party, it will be lots of fun! Games, giveaways and a lot more. Feel free to invite a friend as well:
I've made a lot of progress with my current WIP. I'm actually 3/4 of the way done and loving this story so much! Still trying to figure out the "perfect ending" for these characters and one that will make my readers say, "Aww!" I normally have my epilogue done before I even start writing the book (I know I'm a little backwards) but that helps to keep me focused in the direction that I want to go with the story. With this one I don't....but I'm sure it will come to me when I least expect it.
And lastly, today is the last day to get An Unplanned Lesson for .99 cents. So, if you haven't read it grab it while you can:
Here's a little Dailan and Nicole to get you through your Friday! Hope you have a good one!

Another good day of writing.....I hope!
Well, it's snowing AGAIN....not that I'm complaining because all of this extra time inside gives me lots of time to do what I enjoy most....WRITE! I just hit the 50k words in my current WIP over the weekend and will be posting the synopsis on Goodreads very soon! It will be a spinoff/companion book to A Cry for Hope but you won't have to read A Cry For Hope (but I hope you still do) first to understand it. Just wanted to make that clear to all of you cliffhanger hater's A Cry for Hope does not end on a cliffhanger.
In other news....
For those of you that haven't met Dailan and Nicole yet, An Unplanned Lesson, the first book in the Unplanned series is on sale for .99 cents. I even extended this sale to itunes as well. Although the price change has not reflected yet.

Also, over the weekend my technically challenged self created a website. It's not much but it's a start:
Well I'm going to try and get back to writing as the snow falls down outside my window. Hope everyone is staying warm or maybe you're one of the lucky ones that has warm weather and sunshine today.....wish I was there!!

A Cry For Hope ~ Cover Reveal, Giveaway and Book Trailer....Oh My!
It's Cover reveal day for my fifth (yikes!) book A Cry for Hope. I want to thank Kari from Cover to Cover designs for putting this beautiful cover together, she did an awesome job and is a true professional to work with. I would also like to thank Mandi from MHPhotography for the beautiful photos even though she made it very difficult for me to choose just one for the cover, they were all so amazing! And last but not least, Randi Melendez, the beautiful model on the cover who conveyed so much emotion, exactly the way that I envisioned Hope to be!
So, without further ado here it is, the book cover for A Cry For Hope:

“Look at me,
Jamie! Look at me and tell me that
you’re willing to walk away from everything we have and I’ll be gone. I’m not
ready to give up on us but if you are, then just say the words and I’ll stop
trying.”
“Hope, stop it!”
“Stop what? Stop
trying? Stop trying to have the man that I love more than anything in this
world love me back? Stop trying to make myself feel worthy of your love again?
What do you want me to stop Jamie?”
“What do you
want me to say Hope? That everything’s going to be okay? That things are going
to be the way they used to between us because I don’t know if that’s ever going
to happen. Or do you want me to take you upstairs and fuck you like a stranger,
the same way I’ve been for the past eight months?”
“I don’t know
what I want any more Jamie. I miss my husband. The man that I could tell
anything to. The one that I used to laugh and cry with. The one who would hold
me in his arms and comfort me whenever I was feeling down.”
“He’s gone Hope.
He drowned in that ocean the same day that Charlie did.”
I bit my lip and
fought the tears. “So what are you trying to tell me that I’m just keeping
myself afloat in this marriage only to have you never resurface?”
His eyes filled
with tears. “I wish that I could answer that question for you but I can’t.
Because the truth is, I don’t even know the answer to it myself.”
I grabbed a
napkin from the counter and wiped my eyes. I tried to catch my breath between
my sobs and gain enough composure to speak coherently. “I’m sorry for taking my
eyes off him for that split second that day. I didn’t mean for it to happen. I
loved him too and I’m hurting just as much as you. And if it makes you feel a
little better by punishing me for it this way, then I’m willing to subject
myself to it, because I still love you so much that it hurts.”
And finally.....the giveaway!!

A Little Sneak Peek.....
The book is written. I've fallen in love with my characters once again and cannot wait to share them with all of you! But before I do that.....I have to share the cover. That's all scheduled in two weeks, January 20th to be exact. So as I sit hear staring at my cover (which I am so in love with by the way) I got to thinking. I went a totally different route with this book and had a custom photo shoot done. I wanted to capture the raw emotion that is contained inside this book on the outside as well. There were so many beautiful pictures taken that I had a hard time narrowing it down to just one. So, I've decided to give all of you a sneak peek at Hope my main character from A Cry For Hope. This is not the photo that is on the cover just one of the many that I had a very hard time choosing from:
Can't wait to the share the cover with all of you AND I really can't wait to share the inside!

MY FAVORITE BOOK MOMENTS OF 2013
I can't believe another year has come and gone. Is it me, or does if feel like the older we get the faster time goes by? I hope that everyone has a very safe and happy new year and that 2014 is your best year yet! I cannot wait to introduce everyone to all of the new characters that will be born this year and I'm hoping that you will fall in love with them the same way that you have with all of my others. So in honor of all the characters that you were introduced to in 2013 here are some my favorite moments from all of my books:

Extended Prologue to A Cry for Hope
Those of you that have read An Unplanned Life may have read the short little prologue to A Cry for Hope in the back. I have since added to it and felt that it was only fair to post it in it's entirety. So here it is:
* The following is copyrighted material and subject to change (unedited)
Prologue
Nick
Abate was the boy I knew my entire life.
The boy that I wasn’t afraid to cry in front of. The boy that I wasn’t embarrassed to snort in
front of when I laughed too hard. The boy that I would have burping contests
with, and the boy that I considered my very best friend.
I
can’t remember any time in my life that I hadn’t known him. Nick and I did
everything together. Everyone in the neighborhood called us the dynamic duo.
Our relationship was so easy. We were so close that sometimes it felt more like
we were brother and sister than friends.
It
was the end of eighth grade when things began to change a bit for us. Our hormones
were beginning to take over, and I couldn’t help but notice the muscles forming
in Nick’s arms, the change in his voice or that fact that he had sprouted up about four inches in a matter of weeks. I hated that I sometimes got butterflies in
my stomach when I looked at him and scolded myself for feeling that way. I
really became angry when I found myself staring at his butt in his tight little
baseball pants when I would watch him play baseball or when I would hug him a
little longer than I should have after we would crush the opposing team at
wiffle ball. He was my friend and I
shouldn’t have been feeling that way for a friend. All of the other eight grade girls were
starting to notice him too and as much as I told myself I didn’t care, I knew
that deep inside I really did. It was our end of year eighth grade dance and I
was battling with that green eyed monster
as I watched Heather Braverman the girl that had it all; perfect hair, big blue
eyes, big boobs and every boy in the eighth grade drooling over her, dancing with
Nick. I felt like Raggedy Ann next to Barbie whenever I was in her presence. I
watched them swaying back and forth and I couldn’t help but realize that Nick’s
hands were moving awfully close to the danger
zone - Heathers butt. Heather filled
out her fuchsia dress perfectly in the chest area. I looked down at my own
chest in in my baby pink dress – nada.
I
jumped when I felt a tap on my shoulder. “Hey Hope you wanna dance?” Steven
Wyler asked. Steven was my crush all year long, and at any other time I would
have been jumping up and down if he had asked me to dance. But seeing Nick and
Heather together made me want Nick as a partner instead. I contemplated my answer
and then I saw it - Nick’s hands in enemy territory.
“Sure,”
I responded. Steven took my hand in his and we walked out on to the dance floor. My legs were shaking as we began to move back
and forth. I had day dreamed about Steven for the past year. What his perfect
pouty lips would feel like on mine. What he smelled like, and what it would
feel like to be embraced in arms. Now, being so close to him I realized his
lips weren’t so plump, he didn’t smell like anything special and his arms, well
they were just like anyone else’s. He
pulled me closer and I closed my eyes to block out Nick and Heather and at the
same time imagined that I was the one
in Nick’s arms. I knew it was wrong to be thinking such thoughts about Nick,
but I couldn’t help myself. I opened my eyes when Steven loosened up his grip.
I smiled when I saw Nick tapping him on the shoulder. Steven graciously backed
away and allowed him to cut in on our dance.
Nick
wrapped his arms around my waist, while I circled mine around his neck. “Well,
well, well Abate you unglued your hands from Barbie’s butt.” I looked over at
Heather standing over the punch bowl with her friends, Gina and Terri, A.K.A Malibu and Skipper.
“Haha,
you are so funny Hope!”
I
stood on my tippy toes and whispered in his ear. “If you get to first base, I’m
dying to know if she’s using tissues or paper towels.”
Nick
looked at me strangely. “What?”
“To
stuff her bra.”
He
shook his head and laughed. “You are crazy Hope!”
“I
know, but that’s why you love me.”
My head rested on his chest as he pulled me
closer. The music changed to Mariah Carey’s “I’ll be there” and the butterflies
of all butterflies began to flap around in my stomach. This is Nick, your very best friend. Make those darn butterflies fly
away! Nicks hands began to wander until they finally found their way onto my danger zone. I heard him snickering
and I looked up at him and smiled. “Watch the hands Abate!” He flashed me his double dimpled grin, moving
them up to the small of my back. “Much better,” I smiled. His lips were coming
dangerously close to mine. I had never really kissed a boy. Well actually I had kissed Nick before but not in a
“real kiss” way, but something in Nick’s eyes was telling me that I was about
to experience my first “real kiss” with him as well. His lips grazed mine gently, making the hairs
on my arm stand at attention from goose bumps. His tongue gently pried my mouth
open. I allowed it inside with ease and followed suit, sticking mine in his. He
hugged me tightly as our tongues danced together to the beat of the music. He
tasted sweet, like bubble gum. A gentle touch on the lips was the perfect
ending as the music stopped. We stared at each other for a little longer and we
both began to giggle. I was smiling on the inside when I looked over Nick’s
shoulder and saw Heather Braverman who had been eyeing us up the whole time,
rolling her eyes and walking out the door. Take
that Barbie! He likes Raggedy Ann!
“Can
you share some of that gum with me?” I asked, breaking up the awkwardness. He
took his gum from his mouth and ripped off a piece. He popped it in my mouth and I smiled. “Hey,
thanks pal!” I said.
“Anytime.”
Yup,
Nick and I were the very best of friends, until the worst possible thing in a
fourteen year old girl’s life happens…..her very best friend moves away.

I know what you're thinking. You'd
hoped that Nick and I would fall in love and live out our happily ever after.
But that's not how it happened. This is the story about my family. My beautiful
son, my once perfect husband and finding the courage to live and feel whole
again. If
it weren't for my very best friend Nick, I wouldn't have been able to truly
recognize the strength I had inside of me. His friendship was one of the
happiest memories of my past and unbeknownst to me a very important part of my
future…...
I
sat at the ocean’s edge as Charlie jumped the waves. This was our happy place. The
place where we had spent most of our summer days. At eight years old Charlie was quite the
swimmer. Still, I made sure to always keep a close eye on him. The ocean was a
dangerous playground and as much as Charlie loved it, I knew that it could turn
on him in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, on that warm August day it did and there
was nothing I could do to save my little boy. He became one with the ocean and my
entire world ceased to exist…..
